“Still Waters, Sacred Ground”
I’m excited to share my newest oil painting, inspired by Spirit Island on Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park. I truly believe this is one of those places that feels almost sacred the moment you arrive.
Painted entirely in oils, this piece was all about capturing feeling rather than perfect realism. At first I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted my viewers to land their gaze upon but I knew that I wanted to create something that would make them want to pause and breathe a little deeper. I wanted the colours and movement to reflect the sense of calm and awe this landscape offers as I see it in my mind.
Spirit Island has long been a symbol of connection and reflection and honestly, it felt like a meditation itself when I was painting it.
